Install Android 4.0 ICS on your Sony Xperia P
Sony Xperia P ICS is out as on 17-8-2012 .The update is being rolled out right now in select regions and would reach other markets in the coming months.
The update is available on PC Companion but i recommend not to update through it as it gives an error after the update is complete. Well even though it give an error or sometimes "Android is updating" screen never goes off, you can force restart and yor phone will work fine after a factory reset. but why risk it ??
The following features are new on the Xperia P ICS update :
- New ways to experience your media with new media applications – “WALKMAN”, “Album” and “Movies”.
- Extended standby mode, increasing standby time by up to four times (depending on user-profile and data consumption).
- Lock screen with improved functionality.
- Resizable widgets for improved personalization.
- Improved control of your mobile data consumption.

Before you start ! Please note that all your contents from the phone will be reset to factory defaults ! . So do backup your file before you start !

Step 1 :
You will have a new folder on your PC: c:\Flashtool
Step 2 :
- Download the ICS update firmware from :- Link 1 .
You will be needing the .FTF extension file.
Step 3 :
- The major step !!.. Updating ;)
- Copy the firmware FTF file to c:\Flashtool\Firmwares.
- Go to c:\Flashtool and run "FlashTool" if you'r using a 32 bit windows or run "FlashTool64" if you'r using Windows 64.
- Connect your phone to the PC (Do not shut down).
- Flashtool should recognise your Phone.
- If the flash tool doesnt recognise then go to c:\Flashtool\Drivers and run "Flashtool-drivers.exe" to install the proper drivers for your Xperia Phone.
- After installing the USB drivers reboot your PC and run Flashtool again.
- Disconnect your Phone from PC.
- Click the thunder icon up left.[Flash button].
- Select "Flahsmode" and click "OK".
- Select the "LT22i 6.1.B.0.544" firmware and click "OK", DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE.
- Flashtool will prepare the files for flashing.
- A Window will pop up asking you to connect the phone in "Flashmode".Just ignore the methord in the flash tool.Read the next step how to go to flash mode in your new Xperia S.
- Turn off the phone
- Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN key
- Keep it pressed, connect the USB cable to your PC
- Release the Volume Down key when phone's GREEN LED light glows.
- Flashtool will start flashing automatically, let it finish to 100%.It might take some time. Be patient :)
- Disconnect the USB cable when Flashtool reaches 100%. This indicates that flashing has finished. It will be giving some extra info about activating debugging mode etc.Again Ignore it :)
- Turn on your phone.
- Thats it !! You have your fresh 4.0 Ice cream sandwich update :).
- The first booting takes some time, don't worry let your phone prepare your Ice Cream Sandwich for you.
